The Eisenhower Matrix

A Simple Time Management Tool

The Eisenhower Matrix helps you prioritize tasks by urgency and importance so you can manage your time more effectively and focus on what truly matters. You’ll explore this concept when we dive into the chapter on Time Management and Prioritization.

Urgent & Important: Do First

These are critical tasks that require your immediate attention. Think deadlines, emergencies, or problems that directly impact your goals.

👉 Example: Submitting a client proposal that’s due today.

Non-Urgent & Important: Schedule

These are long-term growth activities. They matter, but they don’t need to be done right this second. Plan time in your calendar to work on these consistently.

👉 Example: Learning a new software system or practicing for a presentation.

Urgent & Not Important: Delegate

These tasks are time-sensitive but don’t necessarily require your expertise. If someone else can handle them, delegate!

👉 Example: Responding to a customer service email that your coworker can handle.

Non- Urgent & Not Important: Eliminate

These are distractions that don’t contribute to your goals. Reduce or eliminate them to stay focused on what matters most.

👉 Example: Checking your phone every 5 minutes during work hours.

Use this tool weekly to help you work smarter and keep your focus where it counts.
